The focus and mission of the Navajo Nation Department of Highway Safety is to provide highway safety awareness with the intent of decreasing the number of motor vehicle related unintentional injuries and deaths among the Navajo people that includes

through education, distribution and enforcement throughout the Navajo Nation.

Provide presentations on all traffic safety related topics as part of our awareness initiatives.
Provide Navajo Nation Employees with the mandated National Defensive Driving Course along with the Navajo Nation Vehicle Operator’s Permit to ensure that individual employees are properly licensed and educated on safety measures while utilizing Navajo Nation Fleet, as mandated by the Departments Plan of Operation.
Collect, analyze and utilize Crash Data for the purpose of identifying crash site locations to initiate safety measures.
